Dead Computer Lives Again!
Posted by: LincolnLady

Anyone with a computer has most likely had the fine displeasure to meet up with one of those hard driving sales pitching, “Can’t give you an estimate M’am ” roving computer service providers. I’ve heard my share of the old lines, and I even bit one or two, hook line and sinker.

My beloved and perpetually faithful laptop was dying. I ambulanced it over to two local computer techs who both after charging me an arm and a leg, $100.00 and $129.00 respectively, told me it was toast. “Get over it” they said “and go buy yourself a new one." Reluctant to pay even more for a third ‘opinion’ that I did not even want to hear to begin with, I did the dastardly deed, and lowered my old friend for one last time into his darkened case.

It was a sad day..

Yes, I am well aware I had a weird relationship with that laptop.. but at least I am woman enough to admit it, and move on… well sort of.

After much research and consideration I found myself online ordering a new Dell laptop, to the tune of $1,700. Ouch! I had paid only $1,100. for ‘Old Faithful ,’ granted XP was not the memory mongering monster that lived inside of Vista. Now I discovered I needed a faster, svelter machine to dance on the floor with Mr. Gates’ new Operating System. And that meant spending even more money!

Time passed and I learned to love my Dell all dressed up in Vista, warts (be they many) and all.

Then, one day I relayed the saga of ‘Old Faithful’ to a new friend I had met. He was a computer geek of the best kind, formally educated with 25+ years experience in just about every language that those little buggers spoke.

It seems he knew them inside out. In my last ditch attempt to give the breath of life to one now cold, dead but not forgotten hard driving computer, I lovingly handed over my deceased old friend, to my new one.

It was being like immersed a sci-fi thriller as I watched him use his high tech mastermind on my amnesiac companion. Within a short time, before my very eyes he had done what said could not be done.

I heard “Old Faithful’s’ little hard drive start up again. It was a miracle! Well, maybe I exaggerate a bit, but it was a pretty long shot and he landed it right in my memory.

Now I have two laptops, one that is shiny and new, and another who has regained his memory, and risen from the dead and dark hallows of a zipped case.

Perhaps before you drop your ailing computer into the recycle bin and run off to hand over your hard earned money on a computer you may not yet need, you may just want to give my multifaceted friend a call. He may be the answer to your computer’s call for help, and yours.

My email address is located at the bottom of my profile page. If you would like his company information and contact number please send me an email. Happy computing!
