About 50 boys ages 8 to 16 competed in the second annual Golden State Lacrosse Camp held last week at the Promontory turf field in El Dorado Hills.

Camp staff member Jim Niemi, who coaches the varsity boys’ team at Oak Ridge, was thrilled with the camp.

“We had the perfect amount of people attend the camp,” Niemi said. “The camp was for players with at least one year of experience so we spent the morning doing drill-oriented skills and then in the afternoon we focused on scrimmaging.”

The camp ran from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Wednesday and ending on Friday.

“The purpose of the camp was to grow the game and give the players the chance to practice in a competitive environment,” Niemi said. “We’ve received good feedback and it was another successful camp.”

All the players attending the camp participate in the El Dorado Hills lacrosse program either on the youth program or in the high school program. The El Dorado Hills lacrosse coaches plan to hold another camp for beginners in mid to late August.
