Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra Presents Season Finale Concert

The Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra presents its season finale concert on Saturday, May 17 at the Jill Solberg Theater on the campus of Folsom High School. The concert begins at 8 p.m.

Leading off the evening’s performance will be ‘Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis’, also known as the ‘Tallis Fantasia’, composed in 1910 for the Three Choirs Festival. This piece was one of the first major successes of British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Renowned pianist Richard Cionco returns for his second solo appearance with the FLSO, this time performing the famous ‘Warsaw Concerto’, composed by Richard Addinsell for the 1941 motion picture "Dangerous Moonlight." Cionco is Associate Professor of Piano at California State University, Sacramento and performs worldwide. Cionco first appeared with the FLSO in the Spring, 2005 concert.

Also featured on the program is the Beethoven Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, op. 55, commonly known as the Eroica or Heroic Symphony, considered by many -- including Beethoven himself -- to be his greatest symphony. This 48-minute work constitutes the entire second half of the program.

The Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra will present this concert program at the Jill Solberg Performing Arts Theatre on the campus of Folsom High School at Prairie City Road and Iron Point Road in Folsom at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $28 to $40 with discounts for students and seniors, and are available by calling 983-4277 and on-line at the www.folsomsymphony.com Internet address.
