Josh Wellman, an eighth grader at Marina Village Middle School, has been selected to the under-15 national lacrosse team. Wellman currently plays for the El Dorado Hills Youth Lacrosse organization on the U15-A team. Wellman was nominated to tryout for the national team by his current coach, Scott Baker, as well as coaches from opposing teams who have seen him play. More than 100 athletes from northern California were nominated and 65 were selected to try out. The evaluation was a grueling four-hour process where Wellman was competing against other eighth and ninth graders for a spots on the team. As it turned out, he was one of 22 to be selected. Wellman excelled in face-offs, where he won 16 of 17 during the tryout. The national team will be facing the best of the best in the nation in tournaments to be held in Colorado and Florida in June and July.
