Benander led the Trojan football team to a playoff berth, completing 20-of-30 passes for 284 yards and six touchdowns against no interceptions in Oak Ridge’s final two regular season games. The Trojans defeated Galt, 28-7, but then lost to Ponderosa 61-35, despite Benander’s good numbers. Despite the loss, Oak Ridge earned the Sierra Valley Conference’s top-seed, but then lost its opening playoff game to Woodcreek. “Connor’s biggest asset was that he was able to control the ball and not turn the ball over,” Oak Ridge coach Eric Cavaliere said. “He played very consistently, completing 60 to 70 percent of his passes.” Scott placed 31st in the state cross country championships held in Fresno, crossing the finish line in 18 minutes, 40 seconds. Her time is a 30-second improvement over her time she ran at last year’s state meet. She was the first Oak Ridge runner to finish and helped the Lady Trojans place seventh as a team. Berringer stepped up her play significantly in the playoffs in helping to lead the Lady Trojans to the semifinals of the Northern California playoffs. Berringer helped the team to playoff wins over Will C. Wood, Pleasant Grove and Bella Vista, on their way to a section championship with another win over St. Francis. The Lady Trojans then made school history with a Nor-Cal win over Campolindo, before losing to Mountain View. “Kayla is a really hard worker and improved a lot,” Oak Ridge coach Becky Potter said. “Along with stepping up her hitting for the playoffs, she’s also improved her play in the back row.” For her play throughout the season, Berringer was selected as a member of the Sierra Valley Conference All-League team.
