With more than 60 percent of the votes going in his favor, Folsom High quarterback Dano Graves was the fans’ choice as last week’s Placer Sports Athlete of the Week.
The Folsom signal caller completed 23-of-28 passes for 401 yards and six touchdowns in a 54-33 win over Casa Roble just prior to the beginning of the vote and threw for 394 yards and five more scores against Jesuit to cap that week. The junior leads the Sac-Joaquin Section in touchdown passes with 31, averages more than 300 yards per game and has completed 78 percent of his tosses. He leads a Folsom offense that is averaging more than 50 points a game.
Gravers outpolled Rocklin running back Jackson Cummings and Colfax volleyball’s Cassandra in the week’s voting.

This week’s poll includes a pair of high impact freshman girls, matched against a senior football player.
Freshman Karlie Garcia has exploded onto the scene in Sierra Foothill League cross country. In a league that returned some of the area’s most talented veteran runners from last season, the first-year Oakmont Viking finished second in the first league-wide meet and then ran out front in SFL meet No. 2 to put herself among the favorites for the SFL title and in the mix in the section.
Senior quarterback Alex Stewart has the Lincoln Zebras off to a 6-0 start this season. He beat Whitney High with a last-minute touchdown pass in the PVL opener and threw three touchdown passes of more than 25 yards in last Friday’s 42-7 win over El Dorado for the first place Fighting Zebras.
Even though Tori Trylovich is a freshman, she has already proven to be the best tennis player in the Sierra Valley Conference. The Oak Ridge freshman has defeated the league's best player the last two years, Christian Brothers' Ashley Turpen, in straight sets. Trylovich also picked up a win over Ponderosa’s Francisco Rojas, a tranfer student from Chile, who's a skilled tennis player. She's undefeated in league play and has only lost two matches all season.
