Trumbull chooses graduation over Masters finals; Sipes sets fresh-soph school record in 400

Oak Ridge?s Shannon Trumbull made the finals in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles at the Sac-Joaquin Section Track and Field championships but decided to attend graduation ceremonies tonight at Oak Ridge rather than compete. Jacob Sipes will run tonight in the 400-meter finals and with the boys? 4x100-meter relay team of Shay Mueller, Zach Youngberg and Bryce Williams, as will Sean McHone and Jake Zeltner in the boys? 1,600, Maxine Goyette and Ellie Velez in the girls? 1,600, Evan Baxter and Marcos Conde in the boys? 3,200 meters and Rachel Peterson and Velez in the girls? 3,200. Trumbull qualified fifth in the 100 hurdles (15.09 seconds) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (45.13) and finished her high school track career on a high note. Sipes set an Oak Ridge freshman-sophomore school record in the 400 meters, qualifying seventh with a time of 49.72. He and his teammates in the relay, Mueller, Youngberg and Williams, posted a time of 43.46 and are the eighth seed in the finals tonight. Holli Arrieta saw her great career at Oak Ridge come to an end, as she placed 10th in the 800 meters in 2:19.02. Teammate Sabrina Andrus placed 14th in 2:21.32. Youngberg ran 15th in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.91, while Mueller placed 16th in the 200 meters in 23.03. High jumpers Jessica Emde and Carina Williams tied for 14th, as both cleared the bar at 4 feet, 11 inches.
