Oak Ridge junior Jimmy Giovannini will represent his team and his school at the Sac-Joaquin Section singles tennis tournament on Thursday and Friday at Brenda Athletic Clubs in Turlock. Giovannini placed second in the Delta River League singles tournament, losing to Ponderosa?s Kevin Valentine, 7-5, 6-3. Giovannini reached the finals with wins of Folsom?s Glen Zhou, 6-1, 6-2 and Jesuit?s Gus Orlando, 6-0, 6-2. Jesuit won the rest of the league singles championships, while Jacob Zetlin finished second at No. 3 singles. Simon Chan and Matt Fergerson also placed second at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. In doubles action, Mitchell Jensen and Max He lost in the finals at No. 2 doubles to Jesuit, as did Taylor Ellerman and Sam Min at No. 3 doubles. The Trojans open the Sac-Joaquin Section tournament at home Tuesday against Tracy. If they win they would face top-seeded Davis on May 7. ?We?re a young team that keeps getting better,? Oak Ridge coach Pat Ryan said. ?We?ve only got four seniors, two who play regularly with Nic Atkinson (No. 2 singles) and Mitchell Jensen (No. 2 doubles). The future is bright.?
