Oak Ridge has had a great second half to the baseball season which saw them win 13 of their final 16 games. Their strong finish helped them take second in the Delta River League and got them a first-round playoff match with Davis, the runner-up in the Delta Valley Conference. Oak Ridge enters the playoffs with a solid 18-9 record, while Davis is 22-4-1. “I watched them twice last week and they’re 22-4-1 so you know they’re good,” Oak Ridge coach Todd Melton said. “They’ve got some good pitchers and offensively they do all the little things well.” The Trojans face Davis at 4 p.m. Friday at American River College. The winner advances to Saturday’s second round where they’ll face the Elk Grove/Vacaville winner. The loser’s season is over. “I’ve been telling the guys all year that we just want to play solid baseball,” Melton said. “I believe we’re as talented as any team out there and we don’t have to do anything extra special. We just have to go out and play hard and play solidly and if we do that I think we can advance.”
