Trojans, Eagles run well at first league meet

Local teams faired quite well at the first Sierra Valley Conference cross country meet of the season on Wednesday at the Willow Hills course in Folsom. Oak Ridge won all four divisions, while Vista del Lago placed second in the varsity girls and freshman-sophomore boys’ and girls’ divisions. Vista’s Maddie Ankhelyi won the varsity girls’ race in 20 minutes, 49 seconds, but Oak Ridge slid four runners in between Vista’s second finisher to win the meet easily, 28-57. Hayley Scott ran third in 21:56 with teammates Samantha Ralstin and Brittney Putman running identical times. Jackie Mansoor finished in sixth one second behind. Vista’s Marissa Mendez placed eighth in 22:33 with teammate Jennifer Arbaugh in ninth in 22:41. Oak Ridge’s final scorer, Kaileen Palmero, ran tenth in 22:47. Rounding out the scorers for Vista were Alicia Segura (11th, 22:55) and Chelsea Gorman (28th, 26.04). The Oak Ridge boys dominated their race, placing five runners in the top-six positions. Amjed Aboukhadijeh led the way with a winning time of 17:46. Nathan Williams and Benji Xie both ran a 17:58 to take second and third, respectively. Zach Speno finished two seconds behind in fifth place, while Clay McNamee ran a 18:19 to place sixth. Riley Martin led Vista by placing seventh in 18:30, while Ian Kennedy placed 16th in 19:50 and Bobby Melchin finished 26th in 21:23. In the freshman-sophomore girls’ race, Vista’s Jenn Horgan won with a time of 14:38 with teammates Hannah Osuna and Liz Anderson not far behind in fifth (15:33) and 11th (18:13), respectively. Oak Ridge had four runners in the top-six with Maxine Goyette leading the way in second in 14:40. Abby Walker placed third in 14:48, Holli Arrieta finished fourth in 15:14, while LeeAnn Hold ended up sixth in 15:57. Pari Javaheri rounded out the scoring for Oak Ridge in 22:29, while Paige Robinson (15th, 19:05) and Jessica Price (19th, 19:47) did the same for Vista. Oak Ridge’s Parker Prestegard and Dusty Armstrong were the top finishers in the freshman-sophomore boys’ race, placing first and second, respectively, in 12:39. Evan Baxter placed fourth in 13:03 with Zach Thornton (seventh, 13:59) and Jake Zeltner (10th, 14:10) scoring for Oak Ridge. Matt Winkler led the Eagles, placing third in 12:58. David Howell ran fifth in 13:40, while Zach Jaeger placed 11th in 14:14. Sam Ruby (25th, 15:44) and Mitch Thompson (28th, 15:47) also scored for the Eagles.
