Oak Ridge High’s tennis team stayed perfect in the Delta River League with a hard-fought 5-4 win over Pleasant Grove Thursday.
Pleasant Grove proved tough at the top of the ladder, winning the top-two singles matches. Jimmy Giovannini fought hard before losing 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1, while Jacob Zetlin won his first set 6-4, before losing the next two convincingly, 6-1, 6-1.
Oak Ridge, however, proved to have more depth, as it won three singles matches and two doubles matches to earn the win and improve to 2-0 in league play.
Charlie Conarro, Simon Chan and Matthew Lai won singles matches at No. 3, 4, and 5, respectively, and did so quite comfortably. Conarro won 6-2, 6-1, while Chan took his match 6-0, 6-0. Lai earned a 6-1, 6-3 win.
Scotty Lee and Max He dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 1 doubles, but Sam and Sam, Miller and Min, won 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles, while Sangsoo Kim and Matt Palmer also took three sets and earned a 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 victory.
Oak Ridge takes to the road next week, playing Jesuit Tuesday and Folsom Thursday.
