Oak Ridge High’s tennis team opened the Division I playoffs Tuesday with a convincing 9-0 win over Napa. The Trojans advance to the quarterfinals on Monday, where they will face Modesto. Not only did the Trojans defeat Napa 9-0, but they also did so easily as only one game went to three sets. Brandon Sutter worked hard to defeat Stuart Miller at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4, but Tanner Schmutte and Andrew Hall had little trouble at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Schmutte won 6-0, 6-1, while Hall claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Jimmy Giovannini pulled out a three-set win at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9. Alex Charn and Nic Atkinson rolled at No. 5 and 6, 6-2, 6-0, and 6-1, 6-0, respectively. Jacob Zetlin and Jonathan Kim picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Charlie Conaro and Tom Barton played well in a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Matt Fergerson and Matthew Lai swept their opponent at No. 3 doubles, 6-0, 6-0.
