It’s been an up and down season for a young Oak Ridge soccer team but the Trojans are in control of their own destiny. A win over Folsom on the road today should lock up the third and final playoff berth from the Delta River League for the Trojans. The improvement the team has shown throughout the season was evident in the results from last week when Oak Ridge tied Ponderosa 3-3 and defeated Pleasant Grove, 5-0. Kyran Bennett scored a pair of goals against the Bruins, while Lee Barclay scored once. The first time the teams played Oak Ridge lost 5-1. “We weren’t mentally prepared for the first game,” Bennett said. “We were sluggish, but this time we were fired up ready to play.” Bennett scored two more goals in the win over the Eagles on Wednesday, while Barclay added one, as did Case Donahue and Roger Blum. “We didn’t make connections among the forwards in the first game against Pleasant Grove but we were able to finish this time,” Bennett said. Folsom battled Jesuit on Monday before finishing league play at Folsom today at 3:30 p.m. “We are playing as a team and are getting better as we go,” Oak Ridge coach Henry Reis said. “The boys are united and having fun as we have a shot at the playoffs.” “I feel we’re doing well,” Bennett added, “We’ve been progressing throughout the season and are playing all-around good soccer. Against Folsom we need to capitalize on our opportunities. We had a lot more opportunities than the first game showed.”
