Tori Trylovich won the Sierra Valley Conference tennis singles title with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ponderosa’s Francisca Rojas to advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section Singles Tournament. The Oak Ridge High freshman will be joined at the section tournament by the doubles team of Victoria Waugh and Julia Dunnigan, who also advanced by placing second in the league tournament. Waugh also won the No. 3 singles division during the league tournament, beating Christian Brothers’ Katie Marshall in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The Lady Trojans also had two winning teams in the doubles tournament, as Lauren Roppolo and Alexis Hill won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-2, while Gabby Zeagler and Morgan Bakarich won in three sets at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Grace Kim, Dunnigan and Katrina Lund all placed second in the No. 4 through No. 6 singles play, respectively, while Kaitlin Corell and Julia Lund finished second at No. 1 doubles. The section singles and doubles tournaments will be held Nov. 12-13 at Johnson Ranch in Roseville. “I just want to do the best that I can,” Trylovich said. “I’ll be up against really good USTA players so I’m just going to try to get as far as I can. I feel like everyone has a chance and anyone can beat anyone on any given day.” Fellow El Dorado Hills resident and St. Francis sophomore Megan Poirier also won the Delta River League singles title, beating teammate Jessica Josiah in the finals, 6-2, 6-4. “I want to do well and play my best at sections,” Poirier said. “There will be some tough girls there, but I think I have a good chance.” Poirier and Trylovich have known each other for seven years. They're best friends and used to be doubles partners. “I feel like she’s got as good a chance as I do,” Trylovich said of her friend’s chances of winning. Poirier will participate in the Division I singles tournament at the In-Shape Sports Club in Stockton.
