A single-car crash killed all three passengers early Sunday morning on Salmon Falls Road in El Dorado County. Nan Pak, a 16-year-old female riding in the left rear seat, was declared deceased at the scene along with the right-rear passenger, Alex Weast, 20, who was ejected from the vehicle, according to Sgt. Todd Brown with the California Highway Patrol office in Placerville. The right-front passenger, Ellijah Shaw, 18, of Folsom, was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Brown said. Shaw was a senior at Folsom High School. The driver of the car, identified as Mark Barrera, 20, of Rocklin, was treated at the hospital and released, Brown said. The crash occurred at approximately 12:40 a.m. “Definitely speed was a factor,” Brown said. “We do not believe alcohol was a factor. We believe he was traveling at a high rate of speed attempting to negotiate a left downward curve when he lost control of the vehicle, went off to the right side of the roadway and hit a large oak tree.” The investigation is in the early stages. “Once we complete the investigation, we, along with the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, will decide what charges to file,” Brown said.
