Suzi's Scene: El Dorado County has plenty to offer families

I have three children, a wonderful husband, two dogs and some pet fish. My husband and I work full time and I am fortunate enough to have weekends and evenings to spend with my family. Between school and extracurricular activities, I like to squeeze in some local family activities and events. Sometimes it’s difficult to find the time to escape from your busy every day life, but once you do, you will be thankful. And you don’t have to travel very far. First on my agenda is the outdoor concert series “Concert in the Park” in El Dorado Hills Town Center. The concerts are held every Thursday night from 6-8 and the bands are of different musical genres every week. Country, rock, jazz, you name it, they play it. Grab your folding chairs, pack a light dinner, and get ready to kick back. I walk up to Selland’s Market-Café located in Town Center and grab a bottle of ready-to-go, chilled chardonnay and unwind from my day. It doesn’t get any better than that. I’m definitely not a wine connoisseur, so every week I am able to enjoy a different bottle that one of their friendly employee’s recommend to me. In my attempt to eat more organic and clean, I really enjoy the outside farmers markets in the Cameron Park and EDH area. Every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon in Burkes Junction, some of the local growers come out and set up a booth and sell their product. Lush peaches, delicious apples, and home grown herbs are some of the yummy treats you will find at the market. Just go online to the El Dorado County Certified Farmers Market Association website and navigate through the site to find out which market works best for you. Not only does buying organic ensure a healthy way of eating, but buying local helps our community grow. For the motocross enthusiasts, you are well aware of a national track we here in Folsom. Located on Prairie City Road, Hangtown MX is home to well-known national and local events, and attracts the likes of amateur riders, pro riders, and just plain old track riders out there to have a good time. If you go online to Hangtown MX you will find dates and times for upcoming events. If you want to go out and do some track riding and have some fun, just give them a call and find out their practice days and times. We are all very well aware of our busy schedules, and with the kids back in school, we are busier than before. It’s important to find the time to make memories with our family because that’s what we will remember and treasure the most. The best part? You get to make memories in your own backyard. Get tangled up in your community and enjoy your family.
