Oak Ridge High varsity girls' basketball coach and athletic director Steve White has been named the SureWest Sports Coach of the Year. White directed the Lady Trojans to a 32-3 record, which featured a 55-42 win over Long Beach Poly and a Division I state championship. The Lady Trojans won the Northern California title with a 52-42 win over Berkeley and a Sac-Joaquin Section title following a 64-50 win over Kennedy. Oak Ridge completed a perfect 12-0 league season in the Sierra Valley Conference. "It's nice to be recognized for our accomplishments," Oak Ridge coach Steve White said. "When you win the state tournament, you're going to get recognition. My name is on the plaque, but it's really an award for the entire coaching staff. It's all of our efforts year round that enables us to be competitive year in and year out." Rocklin's football coach Greg Benzel won the boys' Coach of the Year Award, while Elk Grove's Lefi Letuligasenoa and Roseville's Katie Simon were the SureWest male and female Athlete of the Year winners.
