St. Francis too much for Lady Trojans

Ed Holton has coached the Oak Ridge High’s girls’ lacrosse team since early February, but he didn’t recognize his team last Thursday night. The Lady Trojans hit to road to face St. Francis and suffered a 14-7 defeat in a game they were never in. Oak Ridge fell behind 4-1 early, trailed 8-4 at halftime and was outscored 6-3 in the second half. The loss dropped the team’s record to 3-2 on the season and makes the upcoming showdown with Granite Bay on April 13 even more important. “We’re still in good shape because St. Francis lost to Granite Bay, but now we’ve got to take care of Granite Bay,” Holton said. “We just got whipped. We didn’t look like the same team that beat California. We played poorly and couldn’t get it together. We couldn’t catch; we couldn’t throw. Across the board they beat us. We couldn’t get the spark. It was our worst game of the season. I don’t know what team was out there.” Bridget Hansen scored three goals for the Lady Trojans, while Maddy Hames and Jordynn Wood scored twice. Liz Shaeffer made 15 saves in goal. “Hopefully we can turn it around next time we play them,” Holton said. “It’s the last game of the season and it will be at our place.” Oak Ridge’s next game is at 7 p.m. on April 11 against Christian Brothers, before hosting Granite Bay on April 13.
