Sipes among Oak Ridge standouts at Bronco InvitationalBy: Staff Report
Oak Ridge High’s track and field teams competed in the Bronco Invitational Saturday at Bella Vista and the varsity girls placed fifth and the varsity boys finished sixth.
The top-six placers earned medals and scored for the team, and Oak Ridge had several who accomplished that feat, including Jacob Sipes, who was the varsity team’s lone first-place finisher, as he won the 300 hurdles in 39.65 seconds, the third-fastest time in Oak Ridge history. Other placers include Lexi Davenport – second place, 100 meters, 13.01; Zach Youngberg – third place, 110 hurdles, 15.76; fifth place, 300 meter hurdles, 41.3; Will Vaughn, third place, high jump, 6’2”; Kristina O’Donnell, fourth place, high jump 4’10”; sixth place, 400 meters, 1:01.33; Ashley Dean, fifth place, pole vault, 9’0”; Greg Smolarski, fifth place, pole vault, 12’1”, Jake Zeltner, fifth place, 800 meters, 2:00.56; Marcos Conde, fifth place, 3,200 meters, 9:58.59 and Rachel Peterson, fifth place, 800 meters, 2:28.38; sixth place, 1,600 meters, 5:16.02.
Oak Ridge also placed in several relays: Varsity girls 4x400 meters, second place, 4:09.04, Lexi Davenport, Sabrina Andrus, Caitlin Jolette and Kristina O’Donnell; varsity boys 4x400 meters, fourth place, 3:29.40, Dominick Worsham, Jean-Yves Diei, Nick Menendez, Jacob Sipes; varsity boys 4x100-meter relay, fourth place, 43.40, Dominick Worsham, Zach Youngberg, Bryce Williams, Jacob Sipes and varsity girls 4x100 meters, sixth place, 51.28, Jessica Bolton, Kristina O’Donnell, Jasmine Pears, Lexi Davenport.
The freshman-sophomore boys placed third in the invitational and had two first-place finishes by Jordan Hordesky in the 1,600 (4:42.17) and Tanner Emanuel (high jump, 5’6”).
Other placers included Bret McNamee, second place, 400 meters, 54.87,; fourth place, 800 meters, 2:10.18; Griffin Prather, second place, 300 meter hurdles, 43.11; fourth place, 110 hurdles, 17.61; Josh Gladwell, second place, 800 meters, 2:06.71 and Lars Wuennenberg, sixth place, high jump, 5’4”.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Eric Ramirez, Griffin Prather, Matt Wootton and Tanner Emanuel placed first in 45.75, while the 4x400-meter team of Jean-Michael Diei, Griffin Prather, Josh Gladwell and Bret McNamee ran fourth in 3:47.38.
Oak Ridge will travel to Sheldon High to take on the Huskies in the dual meet Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. before competing at the Woody Wilson Invitational April 19-20 at UC Davis.
