With the All-Star baseball season in full swing, Sierra Valley Storm teams are gearing up for a long run. Sierra Valley Storm is a PONY baseball league, based primarily in El Dorado Hills. This year the Storm 11U team is looking to defend its 2010 Northern California Regional title, having won the North and East Bay Sectional tournament in Orinda, Calif. last weekend by a combined score of 30-2 in three straight games. Solid defense and pitching has been a key to their success this year, with only three errors in 18 innings played. This is the Storm’s third consecutive section title since forming, and if they succeed in winning the Regional title in Brentwood, Calif. this weekend, they will have a chance to play for the spot in the PONY World Series later this month. Although only their first year of playing together, the Storm 10U team also won their North and East Bay Sectional tournament in Tara Hills, Calif. last weekend. They faced an early challenge of overcoming a 9-3 deficit to win their first game by a final of 11-10. However, their offense heated up with timely hitting and smart base running to outscore opponents by a total of 31-18, including a 10-run mercy rule win in the championship game on a walk off home run. They are now off to San Jose this weekend to compete for the Northern Regional title.
