Rolling Hills eighth grade girls win basketball tournament Special to the Telegraph Seeded fourth coming into the playoffs, Rolling Hills Middle School’s eighth-grade girls’ basketball team upset a Camerado and Folsom to win the league tournament championship. Rolling Hills first disposed of top-seeded Camerado, 24-20. The game was close throughout with Rolling Hills leading 15-10 at halftime and 17-15 after three quarters. A late 3-pointer by Alexa Hill provided the final four-point margin and secured the win. Two days later, Rolling Hills faced Folsom Middle School in the championship game, a team they had never beaten, including suffering a pair of double-digits losses to them earlier in the season. The Bengals were determined to change that result and it showed. The teams played to a tie after two quarter, but then Rolling Hills played a strong third quarter and led 32-29 with one quarter to play. Defense was the key down the stretch, as Lauren Ona made two key steals late to thwart a Folsom comeback. Haley Anderson’s four straight free throws and Nikki Dow’s 3-pointer proved to be the difference in the final period. Rolling Hills prevailed with a 44-42 victory. Anderson and Dow finished with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Emily Johnson also had six points and pulled down a number of key rebounds.
