Ray breaks Bomber record again at Roseville track
Two weeks in the book for All American Speedway and two track records for Bomber pilot Erick Ray.
A week after breaking the record with a qualifying lap of 15.721 seconds around the one-third-mile oval, Ray shaved nearly another tenth of a second with a lap at 15.655 seconds on Saturday, the first Fan Appreciation Night of the young season. He went on to win the main event on the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program.
Trophy dash winner Richard Perez started next to Mo Abhat in the front row for the main, but Ray took the lead early in the race and drove away to a 2.782-second victory over Perez with Cody Rickard finishing third.
Late Model — Ron Chunn overcame several yellow flags and Chris Scribner to win the main event.
Chunn, who was second to Scribner in the season opener, qualified No. 2 behind Michael Roman, who clocked a lap at 14.042 seconds.
Scribner, who won the dash, started in the front row next to rookie James Bickford in the feature and led early. Chunn moved in front of Scribner on the fourth lap, and they battled for the lead until Scribner’s car began to smoke.
Chunn took the checkered flag with Tony Mangini second and Hayden Pederson third.
Modified — Reigning track champion Scott Winters took the lead on a restart and drove to victory by .17 of a second in the 40-lap main event.
Opening-night winner Jay Linstroth led early but collided with top qualifier Jason Bamberg (14.12) on the eighth lap and sustained a broken spindle.
An oil spill on the track delayed the race longer but couldn’t stop Winters when the green flag waved again. Bamberg finished second, and Linstroth came back to take third. Linstroth also edged Bamberg, his teammate, in the trophy dash.
Street Stock — Jared Beddow recorded his second main-event victory in a row, taking a checkered-yellow because of time limit after an oil spill.
Richard Poppert Jr. set fast time in qualifying at 14.95 seconds. He took the lead on lap four of the 35-lap feature and was pulling away before a caution flag put the brakes on his domination. Beddow went on to take the lead, and Poppert finished second.
Mark Gardiner won the trophy dash and finished fourth in the main behind Matt Camp.
NCMA Sprint — Eric Humphries won the heat race and dash, and he pulled away to win the 20-lap main by 5.578 seconds. Danny Burrell was second, and top qualifier Ed Amador (14.287) finished third.
