Officials discovered a large and elaborate marijuana grow in an El Dorado Hills home Monday and arrested one occupant. Officers from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and California Department of Justice Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement served a search warrant at 642 Calabria Court in El Dorado Hills locating approximately 1,000 marijuana plants inside. Lien Tu, 47, was at the home when the warrant was served and has been arrested in connection with the illegal indoor grow, according to Sgt. Bryan Golmitz of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. “Those responsible for this marijuana grow had established an elaborate growing environment to include ventilation systems to mask the odor of the marijuana and light systems to provide artificial sunlight,” he said. During the investigation officials discovered that the electrical meter had been bypassed, allowing the suspects free electricity to power their grow. An El Dorado County Code Enforcement Officer responded and condemned the residence due to the unsafe living standards and condition of the home. PG&E officials have subsequently disconnected power to it. The street value of the seized marijuana from the Calabria Street home is estimated at nearly $900,000. Tu has been released on $30,000 bail, according to jail records. ~ Penne Usher
