Placer Sports poll - Rocklin's biggest moment?

-A +A

Every successful sports season is filled with major moments of critical importance, and this year's Rocklin High football team has delivered many signature moments.

With so many to choose from, it is hard to select even a top three for this week's poll question. In the interest of getting a dialogue going, we are going to try, and ask you to pick one of these three by going to www.placersports.com or go to the bottom of that page and tell us about one of your own.

The most obvious choice came in the closing seconds of the game against Grant, when the Thunder defense pulled off a goal-line stand that led to a missed field goal and survival against the nationally-ranked Pacers. Was that the single signatute moment of the Rocklin season?

Another goal-line defensive situation comes to mind as well. Granite Bay had just kicked a field goal to take a 10-0 lead in the third quarter against Rocklin, but then a roughing-the-kicker penalty changed everything.

The Grizzlies took the three points off the board, and two plays later a broken play and a fumble, which was recovered by the Thunder gave way to a 96-yard scoring drive and an eventual 14-7 Rocklin victory.  How would that game, and the season, have been different if not for that moment?

For a team with so much offensive firepower, it is interesting that our third choice also comes from the under-rated Rocklin defense.

In two consecutive playoff games, Del Oro had piled on the points late to come from behind against higher-seeded teams. That included 36 second-half points against Folsom.  Last Friday night, in the section title game, with Rocklin leading by just seven points at the break, the Golden Eagles seemed to be in familiar territory.

This time, however, there was no comeback, but three interceptions and a second half shutout performance by the Thunder defense. Is that second half the biggest event of the year?

So many to choose from.  Tell us what you think by voting online at www.placersports.com .  If you like some other moment better, share your comments there as well. We are anxious to hear from you.
