Organizers: Construction won't detour Folsom Live
By: Don Chaddock Telegraph Managing Editor
Backhoes, jackhammers and bulldozers will be silenced by Friday evening for the kick-off party for Folsom Live, the town’s big street party. Despite rumors, organizers say the show will go on. Amy Feagans, the city’s redevelopment director, said Teichert is doing a good job of cleaning up the street when an event rolls in. “I think it will be fine,” Feagans said. “We’re so used to dealing with these events now. Teichert is used to cleaning up the street and getting into a really good condition. I mean, they did the Cattle Drive really well and that had people and cows.” People won’t be stepping over open trenches or dodging heavy equipment to get into Folsom Live. “They’re going to be clearing away all the large equipment and clearing and cleaning the streets to make sure it’s smooth and accessible,” Feagans said. “We’re also putting up some railing and fencing just for extra security and safety where there are any kind of impediments.” She said those attending Folsom Live will be able to shop and dine just as in previous years. “We’re making sure the sidewalks are accessible,” she said. “We paved the access from the railroad block parking lot to Sutter Street to make sure it’s ADA compliant.” Mary Ann McAlea, with the Folsom Chamber of Commerce, said they have worked closely with the city and construction crews regarding the Historic District Revitalization project. “The city is working hand in hand with the chamber,” McAlea said. “Folsom Live is such a crowd favorite.” On Friday night, Folsom Live presents a Motown-themed block party featuring past American Idol finalists. On Saturday is the big event, with Folsom Live’s gates opening at 5 p.m. While the street party ends at 10 p.m., the fun continues at the inside venues. The streets reopen after 10 p.m. Light rail’s last run is at 11 p.m.
