With her future set, Oak Ridge High senior Sara Haley can relax. The 17-year old swimming star is headed to Louisiana State University on a full scholarship next fall. She made the decision on Sunday. “I knew I wanted to make my decision fast,” Haley said. “I was coming home from my last trip to the University of Washington and I knew I wanted to go to LSU. I called them Sunday afternoon and verbally committed.” Haley visited the school in August, the first of four visits including Washington, the University of Hawaii and Arizona State University. She loved everything about her visit to LSU in Baton Rouge, La., the first visit she made during her recruiting stops. “The school is all about sports and everyone shows their school spirit,” Haley said. “I mean the grocery carts are yellow and purple (school colors). “Their swim team is up and coming and the coaches and the team were amazing. I also loved the campus.” Haley visited the school with six other recruits. She took a tour of the campus, spent a portion of her time there learning about the Communications and English departments, as she plans on studying those fields and also took in a LSU/Texas football game, among other things. “I’m excited it’s over and it’s a big relief,” Haley said. “I’m happy with my choice and really, I knew I wanted to go there all along. All my trips were fun, but LSU clicked with me.”
