It certainly wasn’t their best performance of the season, but Oak Ridge High’s freshman football team defeated Christian Brothers on Thursday, 26-7, to improve to 3-0 in the Sierra Valley Conference and 5-1 overall. For the fifth time in five wins, Oak Ridge held its opponent to single digits, as the defensive unit continues to dominate. Oak Ridge coach Vance Mueller said Xavier Lopez, Ryan Adair and Bobby Gatta led the defensive effort. Offensively, it was the Preston Dean show, as he scored three rushing touchdowns and threw another touchdown to Dylan Collie for Oak Ridge’s other score. Mueller was also pleased with the team’s offensive line, which stepped in the second half and took charge of the game. That unit consists of Alan Petterle, Daniel Portela, Chris Champlin, Lucas Lascano and Roman Andrus. Tight end Trent Stigerts also blocked well, while Spencer Jordan ran the ball well for the Trojans. “We were up and down throughout the game,” Mueller said. “We missed two PATs and dropped some balls, but we came out in the second half and found a way to get it done.” Oak Ridge travels to Folsom High on Thursday to face Vista del Lago at 6:30 p.m.
