Oak Ridge's future in cross country looks bright

Based upon Saturday’s results of the Willow Hills Relays, the future of Oak Ridge cross country is in good shape. The Oak Ridge freshman-sophomore girls’ teams placed first, second and third, while the freshman-sophomore boys also placed first and had another team finish fifth. The girls’ team of Rachel Peterson (9 minutes, 42 seconds), Sami Kilcollins (11:00), Olivia Wilson (11:10), Femke Keukenkamp (11:23) and Mindy Ong (12:10) won the meet with a combined time of 55 minutes, 25 seconds. Mikayla Mefford (10:22), Whitney Wilhemy (10:43), Alison Bamford (11:08), Aishani Kumar (11:27) and Jacquerie May (12:11) placed second in 55:51, while Ellie Velez (9:36), Sabrina Andrus (10:04), Marina Titova (11:23), Karina Kauffman (12:30) and Sarah Reinhart (12:41) placed third in 56:14. The freshman boys won with a time of 45:07. Ryan Prestegard (8:24), Colin Pilcher (9:00), Jordan Hordesky (9:05), JT Jancek (9:08) and Alex Merry (9:30) made up the team. Bret McNamee (10:05), Andrew Bassett (10:28), Garrett Bardini (10:45), Kyle Denison (11:05) and Taylor Savage (11:24) made up the team that placed fifth. In the varsity individual races, Jake Zeltner placed first in 17:46, followed by teammates Marcos Conde (17:56) and Evan Baxter (18:29). Frank Sciales (20:32) and Josh Michael (21:46) placed 14th and 18th, respectively. For the girls, Maxine Goyette won the event in 19:51, while Holli Arrieta placed fourth in 21:25. Taylor Ashby finished in 22:42. At the freshman-sophomore level, Lauren Martinez placed fifth in 11:58, while Sami-Jo Sanfelice was 13th in 12:33 and Ashlyn Duran finished 19th in 13:24. For the boys, Joey Linares ran seventh in 11:17, while Justin Hong placed 13th in 12:30 and Ian Feekes was 14th in 12:47. The Oak Ridge cross country teams will be competing at the Sacramento State Hornet Jamboree on Saturday at Granite Regional Park. The first race of the meet will be the frosh/soph boys and JV boys at 7:45 a.m. Oak Ridge will have varsity, JV, and frosh/soph runners competing.
