With wins over Yuba and Center, Oak Ridge High’s varsity boys’ basketball team enters Delta River League play at home tonight against Pleasant Grove with a 9-6 record. The Trojans gained some good experience Saturday night, pulling out a 70-69 win over Center. Bryce Scott hit the game-winning shot with about 10 seconds remaining to give the Trojans the win and momentum heading into tonight’s game. “It’s been a really challenging preseason as we’ve played some good teams and have come up on the short end of a lot of close games,” Oak Ridge coach Steve Scott said. “It was nice to come through and beat Center and give them only their third loss. We’re trying to build for league play and this game gives us some confidence.” Scott ended the game with 31 points. Matt Howard played exceptionally well with a season-high 25 points. “Matt had a great fourth quarter and with his quickness and athleticism, did a good job attacking the basket,” Scott said. “He continues to get better and better.” Oak Ridge began the week with a 66-56 win over Yuba City. Howard led the team with 19 points, while Scott added 17. The junior varsity squad improved to 12-4 with a 67-46 win over Yuba City. Trailing 12-6 after the first quarter, Oak Ridge outscored Yuba City 25-5 in the second quarter and had the game in hand the rest of the way. Kasian Strawick scored 15 points to lead the team. Charlie Conarro and Andrew Cunningham came off the bench and scored 12 points apiece.
