Becky Potter wasn’t pleased to see her volleyball team seeded 11th in the Division I playoff bracket, but now she hopes to use that placement as motivation.

The Oak Ridge volleyball team opens the playoffs on the road at Lincoln of Stockton on Tuesday, playing against the sixth seed. If Oak Ridge wins, they will face the Enochs/Granite Bay winner on Thursday, Enochs at home or Granite Bay on the road.

“I think the seedings are a bit unfair,” Potter said. “We finished second in our league to the best team in the area and got penalized for it. I know the top-eight are league champions, but I feel we deserve a home game. The only thing I’m happy about is that we’re on the other side of the bracket of St. Francis.”

Despite her displeasure with the seed, Potter believes her team has a good shot to reach the finals.

“We’ve just got to be consistent,” Potter said. “Our defense and blocking has been good, but we’ve just got to execute better offensively. (If we can get by Lincoln) we are comparable to Granite Bay. We haven’t played St. Mary’s.”

In their only match last week, the Trojans lost to St. Francis on Oct. 29, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-18. Despite dropping all three games, Potter was happy with her team’s performance.

“I felt we played great, even though the scores might not have shown it,” Potter said. “It’s the best we’ve played in a long time. We had a lot of little things that didn’t go our way.”
