Oak Ridge High School’s varsity water polo squads each needed to win their final three games of the season to make the postseason and both did so convincingly in victories over El Dorado and Rosemont twice. Both squads finished in second place in the Sierra Valley Confernce and begin playoff action Friday at the Division II Water Polo Championships with the Lady Trojans taking on Casa Roble and the men battling Bella Vista at the Roseville Aquatics Complex. The varsity women began the week by hosting El Dorado and came away with a 14-3 win. Annie Randolph and Ashley Adams led the Trojans with three goals apiece. Amanda Jones chipped in two and Jade Weinbar, Rainie Bullock, Haley Godwin, Julia Lamb, Kristie Kaiser and Caitlin Welsch all scored one goal. Taking on Rosemont the next day, the Trojans were led in scoring by Lamb with four goals, while Ashlee Harbour and Briana Buenzli scored twice. Madison Ross, Randolph, Godwin, Kaiser and Adams also scored in the 17-0 win. In the Lady Trojans’ final game of the season, also against Rosemont, Madeline Prather led all scorers with three goals while Taylor Turville, Tiffany Lo, Harbour and Ross each scored twice. Randolph and Vanessa Moestopo also scored in the 13-2 win. The varsity men started off the week by blanking El Dorado 11-0. Ian Austerman and Riley McNamara each netted three goals, while Garrison Yeandle added two and Andrew Shimizu, Connor Frace and Bryan Cole added one each. In a 15-1 win against Rosemont, Shane O’Rourke led the way with five goals. Cole and Yeandle each scored twice, while Ross Greer, Josh Verner, Justin Chambliss, Bryan Witt, Frace and Austerman each added one goal. In their final game, the men beat Rosemont 11-4, with Witt, McNamara and O’Rourke pacing the Trojans with two goals each, and single scores by Frace, Shimizu, Austerman, Yeandle and Chambliss.
