Oak Ridge varsity teams place second at league cross country meet

Oak Ridge High’s varsity boys’ and girls’ cross country teams placed second at the Delta River League meet held at Granite Regional Park on Wednesday. Both teams finished a distant second, the girls 13 points behind St. Francis and the boys 17 points behind Pleasant Grove. Ellie Velez (18 minutes, 31 seconds) and Reaghan Emrick (18:40) placed third and fourth, respectively, for the girls, while teammates Maxine Goyette (18:56) and Rachel Peterson (19:08) ran seventh and tenth. Holli Arrieta made up the scoring runners by placing 17th in 19:43. Mikayla Mefford (19th, 19:54), Maddie DeZordo (28th, 20:28) and Taylor Ashby (31st, 21:04) rounded out the team. Dusty Armstrong led the boys by placing sixth in 16:21. Ryan Prestegard and Evan Baxter finished 11th and 12th in 16:28 and 16:31, respectively. Marcos Conde finished in 16:38 in 15th place, while Jake Zeltner ended up 17th in 16:41. Zach Thornton (23rd, 16:57), Sean McHone (27th, 17:11), Josh Michael (66th, 19:35) and Frank Sciales (75th, 20:04) also ran for the Trojans. The freshman-sophomore girls won their meet, finishing four points in front of Sheldon. All five Oak Ridge runners placed in the top-10 with Mindy Ong leading the way in third place in 14:21. Sami Kilcollins ran fifth in 14:55, followed by Whitney Wilhelmy (seventh, 14:57), Femke Keukenkamp (ninth, 15:03) and Aishani Kumar (tenth, 15:10). Also running for Oak Ridge were Kennedi Rasmussen (12th, 15:22), Alison Bamford (14th, 15:23), Marina Titova (15th, 15:27), Karina Kauffman (16th, 15:29), Sarah Reinhart (18th, 15:39), Maile Tostenson (24th, 16:03), Lauren Martinez (25th, 16:15) and Sami Jo Sanfelice (33rd, 17:15). Colin Pilcher helped the freshman-sophomore boys to a second-place finish, eight points behind Jesuit. Pilcher finished the race in 12:34. Jordan Hordesky ran sixth in 12:48, while JT Janecek (12:57), Nick Campanello (12:58) and Alex Merry (13:03) finished eight, ninth and tenth, respectively. Also competing for the Trojans were Brett Ford (16th, 13:18), Bret McNamee (24th, 13:37), Zac Forte (29th, 13:52), Garrett Bardini (34th, 13:59), Kyle Denison (47th, 15:11), Ian Feekes (60th, 16:23) and Justin Hong (62nd, 16:30).
