Oak Ridge tennis team's season comes to an end with 6-3 loss to DavisBy: Matt Long, Sports Editor
Oak Ridge’s run in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs came to an end on Tuesday.
For the second straight season, the Lady Trojans were eliminated by the Davis Blue Devils, as Davis won Tuesday’s semifinal match 6-3. Last year Davis defeated the Trojans in the quarterfinals, so Oak Ridge made it one round farther this season.
“Unfortunately, every season ends with a loss and ours game to Davis,” Oak Ridge coach Ralph Clark said. “Davis had a talented team, but it was a winnable match. This is our first semifinal since moving to Division I and I plan on making sure it’s only a stepping stone for next year.”
The Lady Trojans won three singles matches, starting with Tori Trylovich’s 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 win at No. 1. Hannah Crookham earned a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles, while Gabby Zeagler did the same at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3.
Teja Chalamcherla dropped a three-set match at No. 3 singles that could have made the final team score closer. Chalamcherla won the first set 7-5, but lost the next one and the tiebreaker 4-6, 4-10.
In the other five matches, however, Davis won somewhat convincingly. Rachel Librach lost at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0, while Miranda Miller lost at No. 5, 7-6, 6-2.
In doubles action, Emily Abraham and Haesoo Kim (6-2, 6-1), Lauren Roppolo and Heather Dunham (7-6, 6-2) and Ashlee Gonzales and Jessica Williams (6-1, 6-2) all suffered losses.
