Two convincing wins over Sheldon and Ponderosa improved Oak Ridge High’s tennis team’s record to 5-1 in the Delta River League.
Oak Ridge had no problem with Ponderosa on Thursday, winning 9-0, but two matches went to a third-set tiebreaker. Jimmy Giovannini, lost the first set to Trip Moore 7-5 before winning the second 6-1 and taking the tiebreaker 10-4. Hayden Jacobson at No. 6 singles won 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).
Jacob Zetlin (6-2, 6-3), Charlie Conarro (6-0, 6-1), Simon Chan (7-5, 6-2) and Clarence Lai (6-2, 6-2) won in straight sets in singles play, while Max He and Sam Miller (6-0, 6-2), Sangsoo Kim and Sam Min (6-2, 6-2) and Armon Aryani and Matt Palmer (6-2, 6-1) did the same in doubles play.
Two days earlier the Trojans defeated Sheldon 8-1. The Trojans swept singles play with No. 1 and No. 2 singles players Chan and Clarence Lai leading the way, while No. 3 singles Scotty Lee had the most competitive match of the day, winning 6-3, 4-6 (10-6). Chan and Lai won their matches by similar scores, Chan winning 6-1, 6-3 and Lai earning a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Jacobson picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles, while Miller and Min both won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
Oak Ridge’s doubles team of Hunter Newcomer and Cole Malibiran earned a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 win, while Cole Rickard and Jason Rouse won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
