Oak Ridge tennis team falls to 1-2 in Delta River League

Oak Ridge High’s tennis team fell to 1-2 in Delta River League play following Monday’s 7-2 loss to Jesuit. The Trojans won only one singles match (Matt Fergerson at No. 6, 6-3, 6-0) and one doubles match (Prakhar Shrivastava and Taylor Ellerman at No. 3, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5). Oak Ridge split its first two Delta River League matches last week, defeating Ponderosa 7-2 and losing to Pleasant Grove, 5-4. While Ponderosa won the No. 1 singles match, the Trojans had too much depth, winning four of the six singles matches and all three doubles matches. Nic Atkinson and Jacob Zetlin picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, Atkinson winning 7-5, 6-3 and Zetlin coming away with a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Charlie Conarro and Fergerson won matches at No. 5 and 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2 and 6-1, respectively. Matthew Lai and Scotty Lee won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-1, while Austin Mitchell and Sangsoo Kim earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2. Max He and Mitchell Jensen were victorious at No. 3 doubles, 6-3, 6-1. In the loss to Pleasant Grove, Oak Ridge won four singles matches in a highly-competitive match. Simmon Chan won the most thrilling match at No. 5 singles, winning 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5). At No. 6, Fergerson won 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. At the top of the ladder, Jimmy Giovanni pulled off a 6-4, 6-4 win, while Zetlin won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. He and Jensen dropped a heartbreaking match at No. 3 doubles, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2.
