Oak Ridge tennis team eliminated by St. Mary's

Oak Ridge High’s tennis team saw its season come to an end Monday in the quarterfinals of the Division I Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. Oak Ridge lost to St. Mary’s, the champion of the Tri-City Athletic League, 7-2. Victoria Waugh picked up a win at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-3, while the No. 2 doubles team of Gabby Zeagler and Rachael Librach came back to win after losing the first set, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0. “We didn’t respond well to losing three first-set tie-breakers and that along with losing two three-setters spelled the end to our season,” Oak Ridge coach Ralph Clark said. Tori Trylovich played well in a loss at No. 1 singles, falling to Christina Ferrari, 6-0, 3-6, 4-6. Julia Dunnigan at No. 5 singles also lost in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 4-6. Katrina Lund and Julia Lund lost close first sets in tiebreakers and never recovered in the second set, as did the No. 3 doubles team of Tia Nguyen and Morgan Dial. Kaitlin Corell at No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-3) and the No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Roppolo and Alexis Hill (6-0, 6-4) lost in straight sets. Oak Ridge had no trouble with Merced in the first-round of the playoffs. The Lady Trojans won eight of the nine matches, breezing to an 8-1 win. Against Merced Oak Ridge swept the singles matches in straight sets. Trylovich (6-2, 6-2), Katrina Lund (6-0, 6-4), Waugh (6-2, 6-4), Julia Lund (6-2, 6-1), Dunnigan (6-3, 6-1) and Corell (6-2, 6-0) walked off the court winners. Roppolo and Hill earned a three-set win at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0, while Librach and Dial won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.
