Oak Ridge tennis team advances to Division I semis

Oak Ridge High’s tennis team advanced to today’s Division I semifinals with an 8-1 win over Modesto on Monday.

The Trojans travel to Davis today to face the Blue Devils at 3:30 p.m. The winner will play the Jesuit/Granite Bay winner Wednesday for the Sac-Joaquin Section championship.

The Trojans had no trouble with Modesto, as the team only lost one singles match. Brandon Sutter dominated his opponent at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0, while Jimmy Giovannini worked a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2.

Oak Ridge also picked up wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles, as Charlie Conarro (6-4, 6-1), Simon Chan (6-2, 6-0) and Matt Fergerson (6-3, 6-1) earned victories.

In doubles the Trojans continued to exert their will, as Matthew Lai and Clarence Lai won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1. Sam Miller and Max He won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles, while Hayden Jacobson and Sangsoo Kim claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3.
