Oak Ridge tennis begins league play this week

After a tough battle with Bella Vista earlier in the week, Oak Ridge High’s varsity girls’ tennis team had no trouble with Granite Bay on Thursday, winning 9-0. While the finale score was not close, Oak Ridge was able to win four hard-fought matches in three sets, including two singles matches and two doubles matches. Julia Dunnigan won 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Teja Chalamcherla won in a tiebreaker, 6-1, 4-6 (10-6) at No. 6 singles. Hannah Crookham and Alexis Hill, playing at No. 1 doubles, rebounded from losing the first set 7-6 to winning the next two, 6-3, 7-6. At No. 2 doubles, Gabby Zeagler and Tia Nguyen won 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. Winning matches in straight sets included Tori Trylovich at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, Julia Lund at No. 3, 6-3, 7-6, Lauren Roppolo at No. 4, 7-6, 6-3 and Rachel Librach at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1. Miranda Miller and Meghan Schoener also won at No. 3 doubles, 6-4, 6-4. In the win over Bella Vista, the Lady Trojans won five singles matches in a competitive match, as each player had to work hard for the victory. Trylovich, playing at No. 1 singles, defeated Rachel Putty, 6-4, 6-3, while Dunnigan won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2. Lund came away with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, while Librach and Chalamcherla both won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Roppolo lost a three-set match at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1. Hill and Haesoo Kim also picked up a win for the Lady Trojans at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-2. Crookham and Miller lost 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Nguyen and Schoener lost at No. 3, 6-2, 6-3. In exhibition doubles matches, Sydney Newman and Megan Engle, Emily Abraham and Sophie Geyer and Ashlee Gonzales and Jessica Williams all were victorious. Oak Ridge opened Delta River League play on Monday at St. Francis before playing host to Folsom today.
