Oak Ridge tennis advances to Division I semis with 5-4 win over ArmijoBy: Staff Report
Oak Ridge High’s tennis team reached the Division I Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals via a 5-4 win over Armijo on Monday.
The Lady Trojans will face Davis at 2 p.m. today at Broadstone Racquet Club with the winner advancing to the section finals Wednesday against the St. Francis/Granite Bay winner. Davis knocked the Lady Trojans out of the playoffs a year ago, so Oak Ridge will be looking for some revenge today.
Oak Ridge won the first four singles matches against Armijo, along with the No. 1 doubles matches, which gave them the 5-4 win. Tori Trylovich, Rachael Librach and Teja Chalmcherla won the first three singles matches easily; Trylovich shutting out Lenora Quionez, 6-0, 6-0. Librach had an easy first set, 6-0, and then pulled out a 7-6 win in the second set. Chalmcherla won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
At No. 4 singles, Miranda Miller won 6-2, 7-5, while the No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Roppolo and Heather Dunham pulled out a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win.
“That was a lot closer than I would have liked,” Oak Ridge coach Ralph Clark said. “By playing Davis we have a chance to step up against the team that beat us in the third set in the ninth match last year. They’re a beatable team if everyone steps up and plays to their capabilities.”
