Oak Ridge sweeps league meet

The postseason is finally here and it’s time for Oak Ridge to strut their stuff. The team opened the second season by sweeping the Delta River League championships on Saturday at the Willow Hills Course behind Folsom High. All four of their teams, the varsity boys and girls and the freshman-sophomore boys and girls, won league titles.The teams are currently preparing for the Sub-section meet on Saturday at Angels Camp. “The teams raced very well,” Oak Ridge coach Rob Fairley said. “Many fast times were turned in, as we had four varsity boys and four varsity girls finish in the top-10. At the freshman-sophomore level, we had five boys and four girls place in the top-10.”The varsity teams both had race winners in Benji Xie and Samantha Ralstin. Xie completed the hilly 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes, 24 seconds, holding off Ponderosa’s Riley Ruppenthal by two seconds and Pleasant Grove’s Caton Avilla by seven seconds. Teammate Jeroen Keukenkamp ran fourth in 16:36, while Clay McNamee placed fifth in 16:47. Dustin Armstrong ran ninth in 16:53, while Marcos Conde rounded out the scoring by placing 15th in 17:23. Other Oak Ridge runners included Zach Speno (23rd, 18:01), Chris Wilcox (28th, 18:35), Sean McHone (30th, 18:41), James Dutta (48th, 19:44) and Anthony Zuccaro (57th, 20:26). Oak Ridge won the meet with 34 points, while Ponderosa placed second with 63 points and Jesuit finished third with 67 points. Ralstin and Reaghan Emrick led the varsity girls, finishing first and second, respectively. Ralstin won the race in 19:03, while Emrick finished five seconds behind. “The race very well together, running a strategically sound race,” Fairley said. “They ran down the two lead runners with about 1,000 meters to the finish and pulled away over the final 600 meters.” Jackie Mansoor and Holli Arrieta also turned in top-10 finishes, as Mansoor ran eighth in 19:39, while Arrieta placed tenth in 19:42. Brittney Putman rounded out the scoring for Oak Ridge by placing 13th in 20:14. Other Oak Ridge runners were Kaileen Palmero (15th, 20:46), Maxine Goyette (17th, 20:56), LeeAnn Hold (18th, 20:59), Abby Walker (20th, 21:11) and Mindy Ong (27th, 21:50). Oak Ridge won the meet with 34 points, finishing seven points in front of St. Francis. Ponderosa placed third with 72 points. Zach Thornton was the top finisher for Oak Ridge’s freshman-sophomore team, placing second in the 2.1-mile race 11:48, one second behind Folsom’s Jonathan Barrows. Evan Baxter and Jake Zeltner placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in 11:54. Ryan Prestegard finished in 12:09, one second in front of JT Janecek, as the Oak Ridge runners placed eighth and ninth, respectively. Other Oak Ridge runners included Nick Campanello (15th, 12:40), Colin Pilcher (26th, 13:04), Josh Michael (51st, 14:04) and Joey Linares (65th, 14:44). Oak Ridge won the meet with 28 points, well in front of Jesuit (53) and Folsom (84). The girls have won all six races in which they competed in this season. The freshman-sophomore girls had the closest competition, as they won the meet with 34 points, just two in front of St. Francis. Rachel Peterson placed second to lead the way, finishing in 13:47. Mikayla Mefford ran fifth in 14:11, while Mia Brower (7th, 14:23) and Sami Kilcollins (8th, 14:36) also had top-10 finishes. Alison Bamford rounded out the scoring by placing 12th in 15:04. Other Oak Ridge runners included Sydney Hold (19th, 15:49), Jacquerie May (27, 16:45) and Ashlyn Duran (32nd, 17:06).
