Oak Ridge High’s sophomore boys’ cross country team won the large school 3,400-meter race at Saturday’s Bronco Invitational, while the freshman-sophomore girls saw its 13-meet win streak dating back to last season come to an end with a second-place finish. Colin Pilcher led the sophomore boys, as he placed fifth in 12 minutes, 18.26 seconds. Jordan Hordesky, Brett Ford and JT Janecek also ran well with top-20 finishes, as Hordesky placed 14th in 12:28.58, followed by Ford in 16th (12:30.30) and Janecek in 17th (12:31.34). Alex Merry placed 27th in 12:57.30. Oak Ridge scored 77 points to finish in front of McClatchy, who scored 99 points. Ellie Velez finished first in the freshman-sophomore girls’ race, completing the 3,400-meter run in 13:10.38. Like the boys, Oak Ridge also had four top-20 finishes, as Samantha Kilcollins (10th, 14:08.66), Mindy Ong (11th, 14:09.66) and Whitney Wilhelmy (18th, 14:28.53) all ran well. Aishani Kumar finished the scoring for Oak Ridge, as she placed 22nd in 14:44.34. Also running for Oak Ridge included Femke Keukenkamp (35th, 15:21.95), Karina Kauffman (39th, 15:27.87), Marina Titova (42nd, 15:29.16), Olivia Wilson (45th, 15:32.36), Maile Tostenson (47th, 15:37.52), Alison Bamford (49th, 15:43.65), Lauren Martinez (50th, 15:50.72), Sarah Reinhart (60th, 16:16.84) and Sami Jo Sanfelice (73rd, 16:53.90). Oak Ridge ran well and the only team keeping them from winning was Assumption, a Catholic school from Louisville, Ky., who scored 39 points to Oak Ridge’s 60. The Trojans also had a freshman boys’ team compete at the Bronco Invitational. The Oak Ridge boys placed 11th and were led by Brett McNamee, who ran 28th in 13:30.63. Kyle Denison placed 51st in 14:01.59 and was followed by Garrett Bardini (56th, 14:10.25), Taylor Savage (70th, 14:54.04) and Justin Hong (105th, 17:15.32). Josh Michael also competed in the varsity boys’ large school race and placed 174th. Next up for the Trojans in the Delta River League championships on Oct. 29 at Willow Hills in Folsom.
