The Bronco Invitational on Saturday at Willow Hills in Folsom provided some of Oak Ridge’s younger cross country runners a chance to shine and that’s exactly what they did. The sophomore boys’ team won the invitational, scoring 44 points to finish well in front of runner-up Bella Vista, who ended the race with 78 points. The freshman boys’ team placed third behind Jesuit and Elk Grove, while the freshman-sophomore girls earned a fourth-place finish. Jordan Hordesky led the sophomore team, as he placed first in the 3,400-meter race with a time of 11 minutes, 33.30 seconds. Hordesky finished 14 seconds in front of runner-up Kyle Faulkner of Franklin. Alex Merry wasn’t too far behind, as he placed third in 11:52.09. Brett Ford and Patrick Irwin ran close together, Ford placing eighth in 12:19.91 and Irwin placing ninth in 12:21.47. Brett McNamee rounded out the scorers by placing 25th in 12:43.34. “Jordan ran a strategically sound race,” Oak Ridge coach Rob Fairley said. “He didn’t go out too fast during the first mile and ran down the leader on the hilly part of the course. He finished very strong on the last half-mile.” Six others competed for the Trojans but did not score, including Chris Buckley (42nd, 13:04), Garrett Bardini (50th, 13:22), Zac Forte (73rd, 13:53), Ian Feekes (85th, 14:12), Kyle Denison (90th, 14:22) and Taylor Savage (99th, 14:37).
