The Oak Ridge varsity girls’ track and field team has already claimed a Sierra Valley Conference title and will be aiming for a second straight section championship on Friday at Bella Vista. The girls wrapped up the league title on May 14, as Hayley Scott and Shannon Trumbull both won a pair of individual events to lead the way. Scott placed first in the 1,600 (5:06.13) and 3,200 (11:34.15), while Trumbull won the 100 hurdles (15.21) and the 300 hurdles (46.35). Scott also ran on the winning 4x400-meter relay team with Samantha Ralstin, Lexi Davenport and Holli Arrieta (4:01.78). Ralstin and Sarah Vaughn also won events at the meet; Ralstin claiming the 800 meters (2:14.27) and Vaughn winning the high jump (5’6”). The Oak Ridge boys earned a piece of the league title by finishing in front of Galt after losing a dual meet to them. Brian Hanson improved his own school record in the pole vault, winning the event with a league finals record of 15 feet, 3 inches. Amjed Aboukhadijeh had a fine day, winning both the 1,600 (4:24.20) and the 3,200 (9:55.30). Will Findlay and Marcus Friend also came away with wins, as Findlay won the high jump (6’6”) and Friend placed first in the 300 hurdles (39.95). Parker Prestegard ended up fourth in the 1,600, but set a freshman-sophomore school record with a time of 4:26.16. “The girls look as strong as last year’s team which won the section title,” Oak Ridge coach Rob Fairley said. “They’d like to win it again this year. The boys are coming on strong and are showing the ability to score a lot of points. It should be fun and exciting.” The section trials are Wednesday at Bella Vista with the finals being held on Friday.
