Oak Ridge can cross off winning a section cross country title from their list of wants. That’s because the Lady Trojans won the Division I Sac-Joaquin Section title on Saturday at Willow Hills in Folsom. The girls were favored to win and came through with a solid performance, out-pointing Davis by 19 points. The varsity boys’ team didn’t win a section title, but finished second behind Davis, as Oak Ridge will send both teams to the state championships at Woodward Park in Fresno on Nov. 28. Oak Ridge also had an individual section champion, as Hayley Scott won the varsity girls race with a time of 19 minutes, 2 seconds. “Overall I was very pleased,” Oak Ridge coach Rob Fairley said. “Most of our runners had a good day and for the girls, it was the school’s first cross country title so I was especially happy for them.” Scott led the way for the girls, as she won her first section title after a couple of top-10 finishes the last two years. “It was a goal of mine,” Scott admitted. “I wasn’t even focusing on my time; I just wanted to win. As it turned out, it was a personal-record by 14 seconds. Last year I ran 19:16.” Following Scott, Samantha Ralstin placed eighth in 19:45 with the team’s other remaining scoring runners right behind her. Brittney Putman placed 12th in 19:55 with LeeAnn Hold placing 13th in 20:04 and Jackie Mansoor finished 14th in 20:07. Holli Arrieta ran 15th, one second behind Mansoor, while Maxine Goyette placed 47th in 22:35. Amjed Aboukhadijeh led the varsity boys, as he finished his run in 16:23 and in fourth place. “I was hoping to get second, but I’m pretty happy with how I ran,” Aboukhadijeh said. “I always want to improve. I got a cramp that really starting to hurt me and I just couldn’t move up.” Nathan Williams placed sixth, seven seconds behind Aboukhadijeh, while Jeroen Keukenkamp placed 11th in 16:54. Clay McNamee placed 28th in 17:48, while Greg Barrier ran 34th in 18:02. Zach Speno placed 51st in 18:46. Oak Ridge dominated the freshman boys’ race. Evan Baxter placed second in 11:53 with Dusty Armstrong placing fourth in 12:14. Zachary Thornton finished one second behind in fifth place with Jake Zelter another second behind in sixth. Marcos Conde ran seventh in 12:18, while Joshua Michael placed 39th in 14:22. The junior varsity girls also won a section title in Division I. Abby Walker ran third, finishing the race in 21:33. Shari Burton placed fifth in 21:55 with Maren Cosens in 13th in 22:57. Mia Brower placed 18th in 23:28 followed by Inna Lane (20th, 23:38), Kaley Silva (29rd, 24:00) and Eugenia Tso (46th, 25:57). Also running for Oak Ridge at the junior varsity level, James Dutta placed 26th in 19:04.
