Casa Roble’s freshman basketball team was no match for Oak Ridge on Thursday, as the Trojans won big 90-44 to improve to 8-0 on the season.
The Trojans play Whitney at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the second round of the Woodcreek Tournament.
Oak Ridge dominated Casa Roble in all aspects. With 90 points scored, obviously, the Trojans had no problem scoring. Strong defensive play led to more opportunities at the basket, as Oak Ridge grabbed 47 rebounds, dished out 34 assists and made 20 steals, while forcing 28 turnovers.
“We were moving the ball well and getting everyone involved and that shows when our point guard, Kevin Kassis, dishes out 10 assists,” Oak Ridge coach Clark Woods said. “I still tell our guys that our defense wins these games and getting 20 steals and turning those into points makes a tremendous difference on the outcome of our games. Hopefully, we can continue to build our momentum for tomorrow because if we win, it will be another tough championship game Saturday against Woodcreek or Bella Vista.”
Tommy Dunnigan led the team with 16 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Sean Garmston came off the bench to score 12 points, grab seven rebounds and make five steals. Kassis had his second double-double of the season with 10 points, 10 assists and four steals, while post players Brendan Galbreath, Cole Compton and Nick Nygaard combined for 25 points and 18 rebounds.
