The Oak Ridge freshman football team completed an undefeated season and captured the Delta River League championship Thursday by defeating the Jesuit Marauders, 27-0.

The Trojans finished the year with a perfect 10-0 record.

Quarterback Ian Book wrapped up the season with a typically sharp showing, passing for 104 yards and a touchdown to tight end Levi Boeck, who turned a short completion into a 35-yard dash to the end zone.

The offensive line corps of John Moestopo, Dillon Roth, Connor Floden, Dylan Ridolfi, Grant Dean and Boeck turned in their most dominant performance of the year, opening big holes for tailback Gage Webb, who rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.

Tommy Dunnigan was exceptional on both sides of the ball, as he caught three passes for 27 yards, rushed 11 times for 40 yards and a touchdown and also made six tackles on defense.  The Trojan defense registered its fourth shutout of the year behind the strong defensive line play of Brandon Claiborne, Nick Diaz-Kokaisl, CJ Cummings, Michael Bischoff and Hayden Hughes.  Safety Alex Voege had a critical interception to stop a Jesuit drive in the third quarter, while linebackers Colby Carerra and Anthony Palombi stuffed the inside gaps all evening.  Defensive back Luke Goins also recovered a key fumble on a kickoff.

“Our team is fine group of young men who played for each other this year,” said coach Bill Bunce. “ It’s obviously not easy to complete a season without a loss, as each week brings new challenges, distractions and injuries, but our guys were consistent and they improved each week.  We were fortunate to have skilled players and great linemen that executed our offense, but defense wins championships and our defense played as a unit all year.  We had several critical goal-line stands, and those are the types of situations where we get to measure our team’s heart.  Our coaching staff has a special rapport and all of us had great fun together this year.  We will all remember this season for a long time to come.”
