The Oak Ridge varsity and junior varsity wrestling teams had another good weekend at their respective tournaments. The varsity squad, competing at the John Zehnder Duals at Elk Grove High, won all three of their matches in pool play before losing twice and finished in third place. Several wrestlers had solid performances throughout the day. Meanwhile, the junior varsity wrestlers participated in the Wildcat Invitational at Will C. Wood High School and 12 of the 20 wrestlers brought home medals. “It was another good weekend for the team,” Oak Ridge coach Casey Rhyan said. “Keaton Subjeck went 5-0 and beat two state-ranked wrestlers in Adam Wagner and Dustin Harris. The junior varsity team also had a pretty good day with 12 out of 20 guys earning medals.” Oak Ridge opened the Zehnder Duals with a 43-32 win over College Park. The Trojans then defeated Granite Bay, 46-34 and Rodriguez, 38-30, to win their pool. In the playoffs, Oak Ridge dropped two difficult matches to Elk Grove, 52-18, and Oakdale, 42-21, to finish in third place. The team’s overall dual record is now 8-3. Following Subjeck’s perfect day were Cameron Miller, Ali Atebar and Hugh Ellerman, who won four of five matches, while Taylor Ellerman and Preston Dean both won three of five bouts. At the junior varsity level, Curtis Meissner, James Portilla and Bishane Sagal won all five of their matches and placed first, while Joshua Child, Michael Debeau and Austin Hamilton also won their weight classes with 4-1 records. Brian Debeau won four of five matches and took second, while Arin Hill came out on top in three of his five matches and also placed second.
