The dreams for a playoff berth came true for one soccer team but ended for another on Wednesday night at Folsom High. Oak Ridge defeated Folsom 2-1 and earned the Delta River League’s third playoff berth and will face Davis on Nov. 4, while Folsom’s season ends with a 2-6-2 league mark and 2-11-3 record overall. Oak Ridge, 4-5-1 in league play and 6-7-1 overall, scored first on a beautiful goal by Kyle Dickinson. Kyran Bennett, deep in Folsom’s zone near the goal line, made a short cross to the middle that Dickinson headed into the net just five minutes into the game. Just four minutes later, Calvin Millett headed in Evan Woodruff’s kick toward the goal to tie the game. Midway through the second half, Oak Ridge’s Lee Barclay took a cross and blasted it by a diving Andrew Diggle into the corner of the net to give the Trojans the lead and the win. Oak Ridge coach Henry Reis didn’t think it was a great performance from his team, but he’ll gladly take the win and the berth in the playoffs. For Folsom, it was the final game for three seniors, who were honored before the game: Sean Raffetto, Connor Vickers and Hayden Rhodes. “I thought we controlled the ball for the better part of the game and any of our shots on goal could have went in,” Folsom coach Ray Robitaille said. “Things didn’t go our way, but I thought we played well.” For more on the Trojans and Bulldogs see the next week’s El Dorado Hills and Folsom Telegraph, respectively.
