Oak Ridge boys place first, girls second at league cross country meet

The Oak Ridge varsity boys’ and girls’ cross country teams placed first and second, respectively, at a Delta River League meet held Wednesday at Granite Regional Park. Oak Ridge’s freshman-sophomore boys placed first in their meet, while the girls finished third. The varsity boys scored 51 points to finish just in front of Jesuit, who had 56 points. Dusty Armstrong and Jake Zeltner led the way for the Trojans, placing fifth and sixth in 16 minutes, 18 seconds and 16:24, respectively. Marcos Conde ran 11th in 16:41, followed by Ryan Prestegard (13th, 16:50) and Jordan Hordesky (16th, 17:00). Rachel Peterson and Ellie Velez led the varsity girls, as Peterson posted a time of 19:07, while Velez ran a 19:13. Peterson placed ninth, while Velez ended up 11th. Briana Dulgar’s time of 19:50 placed her 16th and she was followed by Maddie DeZordo (20:27) and Whitney Wilhelmy (20:47) in 23rd and 25th, respectively. Oak Ridge scored 76 points to St. Francis’ 20. The freshman-sophomore boys featured the top-three finishers with Alex Merry (12:28), Brett Ford (12:37) and Chad Vargas (12:38) leading the team to a low-point total of 25. Patrick Irwin ran eighth in 13:00 and Oak Ridge’s final scoring runner, Kyle Kauffman, placed 11th in 13:07. The freshman-sophomore girls placed all five scoring runners between sixth and 15th, but only placed third behind Folsom and St. Francis. Karina Kauffman and Arial Hendrickson ran sixth and seventh in 15:09 and 15:27, respectively. Aishani Kumar posted a time of 15:46 to finish in 11th , while Katie Kitowksi (14th, 16:19) and Peyton Wright (15th, 16:25) rounded out the scorers. Oak Ridge’s next meet is the Delta River League finals on Oct. 27 at Willow Hills in Folsom.
