Oak Ridge High’s varsity girls’ tennis team recovered from a disappointing performance and loss against Pleasant Grove on Wednesday and defeated rival Ponderosa in a superb performance on Thursday, 9-0. In a showdown pitting two of the league’s top players, Oak Ridge freshman Tori Trylovich out-dueled Ponderosa Chilean transfer student Francisco Rojas, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in the match of the day “Tori started out on fire, while Francisco struggled with her consistency,” Oak Ridge coach Ralph Clark said. “Francisco changed it up in the second set with slices, drop shots and moon balls, which can be very effective on windy days, but Tori came back to win the third set, 6-3. There are still a couple of very talented players for Tori to play in our league, but she’s established herself as the girl to beat.” Everyone else on the team finished off their opponents in straight sets. Sami Lee (6-1, 6-0), Victoria Waugh (6-3, 6-1), Grace Kim (6-2, 6-2), Julia Dunnigan (6-1, 6-0) and Katrina Lund (6-4, 3-0, retired) all won in singles play. In doubles action, Julia Lund and Kaitlin Corell (6-2, 6-2), Lauren Roppolo and Alexis Hill (6-2, 6-2) and Morgan Bakarich and Gabby Zeagler (6-3, 7-5) came away with wins. Oak Ridge plays at Galt on Tuesday and at Liberty Ranch on Thursday.
